Abstract:
A 90 page book with text by renowned art historian Peter Selz documenting Burkhardt's most recent paintings, inspired by the Iraq/Kuwait conflict. Selz, in his incisive essay, refers to these paintings as an "astonishing series...and major works of art." Selz addresses Burkhardt's unique role art historically as an independent force in 20th century art. This book illustrates in color the entire series of 36 paintings, begun by Burkhardt the very day following Iraq's invasion of Kuwait. Selz's essay is illustrated with 14 additional works dating from 1934 to 1968.
