Sarah Miller

American Art and Culture


Sarah is a historian of photography, modern art, and American art and culture. As a Visiting Scholar at UC Berkeley, she is working on a book about the multiple, highly contested inventions of the concept "documentary" in American photography of the 1930s-40s. She is also a Visiting Faculty member at the San Francisco Art Institute, where she teaches courses in the history and theory of photography. From 2010 to 2013 she was the Terra Foundation Postdoctoral Scholar in American Art at the University of Chicago.
