Imogen Hart works on modern art and material culture in Britain, especially the objects and interiors associated with the Arts and Crafts movement. She is particularly interested in the relationship between fine and decorative art, the history of exhibitions, interiors, non-canonical histories of modernism, Victorian art and science, and international networks of artistic influence and exchange, especially between Britain and the United States and within the British Empire.

Imogen is the author of Arts and Crafts Objects (Manchester University Press, 2010). She is co-editor, with Jason Edwards, of Rethinking the Interior, c. 1867–1896: Aestheticism and Arts and Crafts (Ashgate, 2010) and, with Claire Jones, of Sculpture and the Decorative in Britain and Europe, Seventeenth Century to Contemporary (Bloomsbury Academic, 2020). Other publications include peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on William Morris, the Arts and Crafts movement, modernist magazines, Victorian and Edwardian painting, sculpture and evolutionary theory, and modern craft. Her current book project explores the legacies of the Arts and Crafts movement.

Before joining the History of Art Department at Berkeley, Imogen was a Postdoctoral Research Associate and an Assistant Curator at the Yale Center for British Art. She has taught in the History of Art Departments at the Universities of York, Newcastle, Bristol, and Birmingham, and at Yale University.
