Amy Xiaochen Zhong was named our 2021 Valedictorian and delivered a moving address to our community at our May 18 Commencement.  Dane Reeb was named the winner of our 2021 Departmental Citation. Cara Marie Green won the Andrew Stewart Prize for Excellence in Undergraduate Research Writing for her thesis, “Painting Through Fabric: The Simultaneous Movement of Color & Time in Sonia Delaunay’s Fabric Design.” Professor Darcy Grimaldo Grigsby served as advisor for the thesis. Catherine Ruolin Yang won the James Cahill Prize for the most distinguished essay on a topic in Asian art, for her thesis, "Soluble Traditionalism: Zhang Yu's Fingerprints and the Boundary of Ink Painting." Professor Jun Hu served as advisor for the thesis. Ariel Hoage has won the Kirk Underhill Undergraduate Prize for her paper, "Beatrix Potter's Darwinian Imagination," which was written for Professor Imogen Hart’s Fall 2020 seminar “Art and Evolution.” The prize is awarded annually for the best student paper on a British Studies topic. Congratulations to our Department Manager, Faith Enemark, who has been awarded the Berkeley Staff Assembly’s 2021 Excellence in Management Award! This significant honor for which there were over 100 nominees recognizes exemplary managers and supervisors who have led their teams and team members to meaningful accomplishments this past year. Recipients are nominated directly by their staff; Faith was nominated by History of Art's Program Assistant and Graduate Student Advisor Hannah Fischer, and her counterpart in the Departments of Rhetoric and Film & Media, Graduate Student Advisor Claire Armetta (yes, Faith manages not just one, but three departments!).  There will be a campus EIM virtual awards ceremony on May 4. The theme for this year’s award is “Leading In Difficult Times.” The theme highlights leadership that demonstrates and encourages resilience, inclusiveness, compassion, adaptiveness, work-life balance, well-being/morale, and related qualities. Professor Andrew Stewart has been elected an Honorary Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities.  This honor testifies to the "exceptionally high regard in which [he is] held by the Humanities community in Australia."  Congratulations!
