    Undergraduate Seminar: Black Consciousness & The Black Arts Movement: Mid-Twentieth Century Resistance Art Movements in Southern Africa and the United States

    This seminar will be historical and comparative in its approach by engaging the visual traditions of resistance art movements between Southern Africa and the United States. A comparative analysis will consider the similarities and differences between the iconography of Black Consciousness in South Africa and the visuality of the Black Arts Movement in the United States which emerged in the wake of the Black Power Movement in the sixties and the seventies.

    This course fulfills the following Major requirements: Geographical area (E), and Chronological period (III).
