    Survey of Western Art

    This course is an examination of ancient art from the Prehistoric to the Medieval Periods – within the western perspective  It will introduce you to looking at and interpreting art in different ways, exploring the relationship of various visual art forms and the cultural context in which they were produced. It will ask that you engage in critical analysis of artistic themes, styles, forms and subject matter. We will look at a broad range of artistic media i.e., painting, architecture, sculpture and minor arts. We will focus on some of the most iconic works that best exemplify each region and period under study. Through this survey, you will deepen your understanding of western art, its context, cultures and artistic movements.
