This course is an examination of Western Art from the Prehistoric to the Medieval Periods. It will introduce you to looking at and interpreting art in different ways, exploring the relationship of various visual art forms and the cultural context in which they were produced. It will ask that you engage in critical analysis of artistic themes, styles, forms and subject matter. We will look at a broad range of artistic media (painting, architecture, sculpture and minor arts) by focusing on pieces that best exemplify each period.
