Freshman Seminar: Sojourner Truth, Photography and the Fight Against Slavery
Monday | 11:00 - 1:00pm
Taking advantage of the exhibition of the same name that I have curated at the Berkeley Art Museum, this seminar concentrates on the savvy use of photography by the illiterate runaway slave, abolitionist and feminist orator and activist Sojourner Truth. It introduces students to the complex medium of photography, slave narratives, and the role of photography during the Civil War. Some classes will be held at the museum.
