Cities and the Arts: Rome and Constantinople
Monday | Wednesday: 5:00 - 6:30pm
This lecture class explores the ways in which urban dwellers in the ancient Mediterranean imagined, decorated, and designed their cities. The ancient cities of Rome and Constantinople will be the focus of these explorations, though the class will also engage with Antioch, Alexandria, Jerusalem, and Pompeii. Weekly reading assignments, a journal of notes on the readings, participation in class discussion and other in-class assignments as well as a midterm exam and a final project are required.
