    Gillian is a graduate student at the Sun Yat-sen University in China. Her research interests include arts in China, material culture since Yuan period, and landscape studies. Currently, she examines the relation between the artist and patrons of local epigraphists in the nineteenth-century Zhejiang Region. In 2011, she undertook fieldwork at the southern Chinese town of Xiqiao, investigating the development of silk technology and social change. Results are reported in her new book Language of Silk: Oral History of Silk Industry in Xiqiao District (2012).
